These are valid excuses. I hear you and I can relate with you.
Hi, I am Sha Nacino.
I was never a writer. I didn’t like to write either. And I’ve had all the excuses I mentioned above.
When I was in elementary and high school, Math was my favourite subject. Whenever I got bored studying my lessons and I wanted to relax, I would start solving Math problems.
Words? They didn’t have much appeal to me then.
Writing? Oh…taxing! Reading? Boring!
My original course in college was Bachelor of Science in Public Administration but the books and articles we were required to read tortured me! And so I shifted to Bachelor of Science in Business Economics on my second year in college. Less readings, more Math, equals more fun!
I was not a writer. I didn't like to write, either. Today, I've written and published twelve (12) books. I'm going to share with you exactly how I did it. If I can do it, you can definitely do it as well!
The Biggest Mistake You Can Make!
People think that writing a book requires a writer. That’s a big mistake! You don’t need to be a writer in order to write a book.
Neither do you write a book because you are a writer.
Do you want to know what it takes to write a book? You write because you care and you have a message to share.
You Can Write a Book!
My message to you is simple.
You can write a book!
Writing a book doesn’t require a writer. It requires a messenger. You are the message.
Get this. If you can send a text message and the other person understood your message, you can write a book.
If you can post a Facebook status that merits a Like or a Comment, you can write a book.
If you wrote your thesis in college, you can definitely write a book!
Are you going to wait for another year, or decade, before you finally write and publish your own book?
Why Write a Book?
But why in the world would you want to write a book?
Some authors are motivated to write for the following reasons:
Fame. When you become a published author, you will be recognised as an expert.
You’ll be invited to speak in seminars, universities, and companies.
Imagine receiving a call from the HR manager of a big, multinational company telling you, “I’ve read your book on personal financial management. I was glued to it and I feel our employees could benefit from it. Can we invite you to give a one-hour talk to our employees? How much do we pay you?"
When you are an author and people would see you speak on stage, they will line up to get your autograph or take a picture with you. Not only that, you will also be invited to guest in TV shows or radio shows.
Fortune. You’ll get paid for your speaking engagements! You could earn royalties from your books, too!
Branding for Oneself (they say that a book is the new calling card). A book will make you stand out. Let’s say a company is choosing a speaker among a pool of public speakers. The one who has written and published a book would definitely stand out!
While Fame, Fortune, and Branding are great motivational reasons to write a book, I believe there’s more to writing books than these three.
How to Succeed as an Author
Fame, Fortune, and Branding are positive consequences of writing a book. They are the effects.
If you want to succeed as an author and get your desired effects, you’ve got to have the right reasons (causes) for writing a book.
It all boils down to this simple statement: You write because you care and you have a message to share.
Writing a book is about inspiring people through your words and stories.
It’s about sharing solutions to their problems.
When you do this, people will be naturally drawn to you. They would want to read more of your work. They would want to get more of your services — talks, coaching, or training.
In the next 5 minutes, I will show you what it takes to succeed as an author. I will also show you how you can publish your own book the right way, right away!
But first, let me give you a glimpse of what happened to me when I became an author.
When I Became an Author
In 2010, I attended seminars almost every month. I paid for these seminars.
In the first quarter of 2011, I published my first book Think Rich, Yuppies!
Right after I published my first book, almost instantly, I got invited to speak in the seminars I attended in 2010!
From a paying attendee, I became one of the resource speakers. Like magic, I felt I was suddenly promoted in the eyes of the public! I had the opportunity to meet, talk, and dine with the people I look up to!
lyFrom a nobody, I became a recognised expert just because I wrote and published a book!
I was invited to share the stage with CEOs of big companies as well as the big names in the speaking industry like Bro. Bo Sanchez, Ardy Roberto, Miriam Quiambao, Dr. Larry Gamboa, Jomar Hilario, Dean Pax Lapid, Edward Lee, Rex Mendoza, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Tony Meloto, and many more!
I got to know these great people I look up to and they got to know me. Many of them have become my friends and mentors.
I got invited by some of the biggest companies to speak to their employees. I got invited to speak in different parts of the Philippines.
Lately, I also received invites to speak abroad. I've spoken in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, UAE, the Maldives, and the U.S.
Again, it all started when I became an author.
Aside from speaking engagements, I was also featured in ANC On the Money, GNN, Kerygma magazine, Radio Inquirer, BusinessWorld, GMA radio, and many more!
Did I tell you I was not a writer? Today, I’ve written and published twelve (12) books. I wrote and published seven (7) of these books while I was working full time for a bank.
If I can do it, you can do it, too! You just need to learn how to write a book the right way and how to publish it right away!
The Biggest Rewards of Becoming an Author
The rewards I mentioned earlier are just icing on the cake.
Do you know the biggest reward I got from becoming an author?
It’s this: Every morning, I get excited to literally jump out of bed because I’ve found my purpose and passion in life. These, I discovered in the process of writing my first book. And… I know that somehow, in my own little way, I am affirmed that what I do impacts the world and inspires people.
This is the power that well-written books (books written from the heart, with sincerity, and with the purest of intentions) could do!
When I go to National Book Store, I would see my latest book, Money & Me displayed along with the books of Bro. Bo Sanchez, Francis Kong, Chinkee Tan, Dr. Larry Gamboa, Dean Pax Lapid, Francisco Colayco, Robert Kiyosaki, and Suze Orman. It gives me goosebumps and an incredible feeling of joy that I couldn’t contain.
A Book is a Conversation Starter
May I share with you another intangible and priceless benefit of becoming a published author? I realized that a book is a great conversation starter.
I love meeting new people. When I attend seminars and I'd like to thank the speaker for his inspiring talk, I would approach him, thank him, and give him a copy of my book.
I attended the Toastmasters International Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last August 2014. There were about 3,000 delegates from more than 126 countries all over the world.
I met the World Champions of Public Speaking. I met renowned international authors and speakers. After their talks, I approached some of them at the back stage and gave them a copy of my latest book Money & Me.
On Day 2, I bumped into this famous man again in the lobby of Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.
I said, "Hi, Mark! It's me again. Sha Nacino from the Philippines."
His reply surprised me. "Of course, Sha! I remember you. You gave me a copy of your book yesterday. Others gave me their business cards. You were the only one who gave me a book."
And guess what? I'm now friends with some of these international speakers and authors. We communicate via email. I just got myself a fleet of international authors and speakers as my mentors!
I didn't know that such a simple gesture of giving your book to a speaker can go a loooooooong waaaaay!

Jack Canfield is the bestselling author of the book series "Chicken Soup for the Soul." He is my mentor and we met in person for the first time when I joined him in his seminar on board the Royal Carribbean Cruise. We boarded and docked in Miami, Florida and went to Honduras, Mexico, and Bahamas.
Over time, I also grew in my character, competence, and reach and I got to travel the world as a trusted global speaker. Here were some of the photos.
There is a Systematic Way of Writing a Book!
If someone like me, who was not a writer and who was not even fond of reading books, could write and publish a book (or books), you can, too! By the way, I fell in love with writing and reading books in the process of writing my first book.
When I wrote my first book, I didn’t know anything about writing a book. It took me two long years to write my first book and another one whole year to learn how to publish it. In short, it took me three long gruelling years to write and publish my first book!
Those three years helped me discover the system of writing a book!
When I learned this system, it took me one day to write my first eBook How to Earn while on Vacation with a Foreword by Bo Sanchez. Using the same system, it took me only two months to write and publish my latest physical book Money & Me.
I realised that anybody, and I mean it...
Anybody who has access to this “book writing and publishing system” I’ve learned, developed, and used through the years, can write and publish a book!
A few months ago, I talked to a friend and she said she's been wanting to write a book for years now. It's in her bucket list!
"Have you started writing your book yet?" I asked.
"Not yet. It's such a daunting task. Besides, writing is my waterloo." She answered.
I chatted with another Toastmaster friend who is also an international speaker. I asked him if he wants to write a book. And he said, "Of course!"
If you're like my friends and you've been wanting to write a book but you keep putting it off, I'd like to challenge you.
The 90-Day Book Writing Challenge
So here's the BIG GOAL: Write a Book within 90 Days!
What will happen in the 90-day Book Writing Challenge?
The acronym is W.R.I.T.E.
WINNING COMMUNITY. You will be in a community of aspiring authors. (Note: I'd rather call you authors. Claim it. You already have books within you. You just need a little push and inspiration and guidance to unleash them.) Don't write the book alone. That's boring. Be in a community of dedicated authors. Have some sense of accountability.
Note that this will be an online community. It means, this is open whether you're in Manila or Cebu or Davao or other parts of the Philippines, and even if you're abroad.
RESULT. Our goal is to finish writing a book in 90 days.
INSPIRATION. Writing a book has a lot to do with inspiration. I'm not talking about romantic inspiration, although that could also help. :P
I'm talking about being fired up to do something great, e.g. writing a book, knowing that your book will bless and inspire the world. It's about acknowledging your worth as a person and an author. I'll give you loads of inspiration all throughout the 90-Day Book Writing Challenge.
TOOLS AND SYSTEMS. It took me 3 years to write and publish my first book. This was because I didn't know anything about writing a book. And then I discovered a systematic way of writing a book. Using that system, I was able to write and publish 6 books in a span of 18 months while working full time for a bank!
Using that system, I wrote my eBook "How to Earn while on Vacation" with a Foreword by Bo Sanchez in one day. I wrote another short eBook "How to Make Your Dreams Come True" with a review by international author Brian Tracy in one month. And I wrote and published my latest physical book Money & Me in two months. The system works! :)
I'll share that system with you. No holds barred. :)
ENCOURAGEMENT. It's true. Writing a book is challenging. There are days when you're so inspired and motivated to write. There are days when you're lazy to write.The 90-Day Book Writing Challenge will give you the encouragement you need to keep going.
